Doctor Who - New York
CHAPTER
I
Date: September 20th 2007, 10:00pm est
A humming sound filled the streets of New York City. While everyone could hear it, it simply went unnoticed and the people continued going by. Same as a sudden gust of wind that came and went in mere seconds, and a black, somewhat shapeless thing, filled the dark alley. It blended in well with the darkness of the night. The only thing that gave it it’s shape was a light on the top, flashing and stopped once the humming stopped. Again, all this went unnoticed by the people going by. The door opened, and a man in black stepped out. He tightened the gloves on his hands. The gloves looked almost like normal, common leather. But they were made millions of light-years away, about 200 years later. The same material is what made up his belt, and boots. He started walking the streets. He stopped, and looked up at the lights of the city. Thinking how these people’s technology, and how far it took them to learn to make electricity to power these lights and how far they still have to go. Yet, he thought of how much potential they have for good. Unfortunately, they also have much potential for evil, as he knew all too well. He kept walking. He heard a sound that seemed somewhat familiar. Too familiar. He looked over his shoulder. “No”, he said under his breath “they couldn’t have followed me”. He continued walking. He doesn’t fear for his life. He was 5 years old the last time he feared dying. He fears what they’ll do to his life if they caught him. He again looks behind him. “Don’t wanna risk it” he said. He takes a 6” metal rod from one of the pockets on his belt. He turns a switch on it, and aims toward the direction of the dark object he arrived in. He presses a button, and the end of the rod glows with blue light. The humming begins, and the black object in the alley disappears. He lets go of the button, and presses it again, aiming it at the top of the Empire State Building. He could barely see it appear, but there it was. Sitting safely on the top. He smiles “Good. A little less in the open.” He puts the rod back In his pocket, and continues walking the streets.
CHAPTER
II
Date: September 21st 2007. 3:00pm EST, New York City
School lets out. Everyone leaves to return home. Mary meets her friends, and walks with them.
“Have you thought about College?” said one of Mary’s friends.
“No. I just… haven’t thought about it.” she replied.
“Well you’ll have to. School ends soon.” her friend said.
“I still can’t help think there’s something better. More… exciting” Mary said
“You keep saying this. You keep looking to the stars. But this is here and now. Nothing ‘exciting’ is going to…” a small piece of debris comes from the building they were passing.
“Huh. Anyway, like I was saying…” she continued. They kept walking, but Mary couldn’t help but feel like that was strange. She looked back, but there was nothing. They continued walking.
On that building, three men fight. Yet they fight silently, and swiftly. Two of the men wore black suits that cover their whole bodies. Even their eyes and mouths, Their eyes had some sort of material that allowed them to see out, but no one could see in, and they gave no reflection. They also wore a filter on their masks that made both their voices sound alike. The filter was small, hardly noticeable. The two men attack a single man.
“Your coming back” said one of the men
“Over my dead body” said the man.
“If you wish. Alive would be better, but dead will work” said the other attacker as he pulled out a blade.
The single man blocks the attack, and kicks the attacker aside. He then jumps away from the second attacker’s strikes.
“Two against one? That’s hardly fair. I spent years fighting ten of you, and I always won” said the man.
“Maybe. But never have you fought us” he says as he pulls out a thin cord, and goes to choke the single man, but is flipped off the roof. He grabs a hold of the ledge, and pulls himself back up.
The single man and the second Assassin fight, both with long swords. The Assassin lunges. The man steps aside, grabs the Assassin’s arm, and kicks his elbow.
“AHH!” yelled the Assassin.
The man then kicks the other Assassin as he tries to attack him from behind. The second Assassin, with the broken arm, takes a small pistol from his belt.
“I can still kill you with one arm” the second Assassin says under his breath.
Before he can pull the trigger, the man pulls out a pistol himself, and shoots the Assassin. Dead.
“One down” says the man.
“He was weak. You can’t kill me so easily” says the Assassin.
“Oh yes. See, I’ve learned some new tricks” he said as he pulls out the strange metal rod. He presses a button aimed at the Assassin’s holster (where his pistol is). The pistol overloads, and blows up, killing the Assassin. The pistols weren’t strong. They were only strong enough for 5 shots. They were strong enough to kill the Assassin without blowing up the building.
The man goes to the body of the Assassin he shot. He takes the belt, puts the metal rod up to it, and presses the button. He then stands, and looks at where the other Assassin was.
“No. It couldn’t have survived” he says, and walks away.
He then stops.
“Oh yes, it could have” he says, and walks back towards the Assassin.
Sure enough, it did: The Assassin’s belt. These Assassins have tracking devices in their belts. If he doesn’t deactivate them, then they could find him.
He then jumps down into an ally, brushes himself off, and begins once again walking the street.
CHAPTER
III
Date: September 22nd 2007, 7:00am est, New York City
Mary walks out of her house, and starts to walk to school. Then, out of nowhere, a man in dark clothes speeds past her, followed by 2 other men in even darker cloths.
Mary looks in the direction of the chase, then looks in the direction of school. She bites her lip, and starts running in the direction of the chase.
“Target: Located. Pursuing now. What are your orders?” One of the chasers says into a device on his wrist.
On a building far away, above New York City, a man in black clothes looks down at the chase. His uniform is the same as that of the Assassins’, except he does not wear a mask. Behind him are two Assassins.
“Incapacitate him. We want him alive. If he is killed, death will be something you’ll wish for.” says the man on the top of the building. He then looks down at the chase.
Across town, the hunted man runs into an old warehouse.
“He’s here. Split up.” Says one of the pursuers.
Mary runs up to the warehouse. She tries to catch her breath, and then enters the warehouse. She walks carefully throughout the maze of crates. Her mouth if then grabbed, and she is pulled behind some crates.
“Who are you?” Says the man
“What? Who?” Mary says, trying to regain her bearings.
“Who. Are. You? I won’t ask again” He says, now holding a blade
“M… Mary. Mary Adams. I…” She says before she is cut off
“Why are you here? Who do you work for? What do you want?” He says.
“I... was curious. I wanted to see what was going on. I don’t work for anyone. I’m trying to find a job, though.” She says, now rambling
He knows how to lie. He has been trained in such things. He also knows how to tell when someone else is lying. He looks at her, and he doesn’t believe she is lying. He lowers his blade. He then looks around a corner.
“Who are y…” She starts to say before he grabs her mouth.
“Shhh” He whispers.
He sees one his pursuers walk by. He waits for him to go, and starts to walk with Mary towards a door that leads into an alley.
“Alright. Go. Now. Forget everything you’ve seen and tell no -- Ahh!” he says before he yells, and falls to the ground. He starts bleeding from his chest.
“Target: Incapacitated. Awaiting pickup.” says an Assassin on a nearby building. He holds a rifle. This rifle is quiet. It makes no sound as it fires. The perfect weapon for an Assassin.
“Oh God, oh God, oh God!” Mary says in a state of panic, wondering what she has gotten into.
She goes over to him and looks at him. He doesn’t move. He then reaches up, and pulls her down to him.
“TARDIS!” He yells, trying to hold back the pain.
“Y… your heart! They hit your heart!” She panics.
“I need my TARDIS!”
“what?” she says, eyes wide
“Right pocket. There’s a metal rod in there. Give – GAH! Give it to me!” He says, still trying to hold back the pain.
“Al… alright” she says. She opens up his belt pocket, and takes out a strange rod. She looks at it with wonder before giving handing it to him.
His hand is shaking, but manages to press the button. A huge wind comes, followed by a humming sound. A light appears, and she looks up. Then, all of a sudden, a dark box appears before her eyes. She looks up at it with wonder.
CHAPTER
IV
Date: September 22nd 2007,7:30am est, New York City
“Oh my…” Mary says looking up at the strange box, before she is cut off.
“We need to get inside, now!” He says
“H… how?” She says, helping him up.
“TAR... TARDIS key. Left pocket on my belt” He says.
“Here.” She says, handing him the key. She helps him to the box.
“Sir! A strange box appeared. He’s…” The Sniper says, before getting cut off.
“GET HIM! Do not kill him. But stop him!” Says the man overlooking this. He appears to be the commander.
He opens the doors to the strange box. When they get in, Mary looks up at the huge room with wonder. The outside of the box is very small, yet the inside is much larger. The room had gold walls. In the center is a round table that seems to be the control panel of the place. In the center of the table is a tall, wide tube that reaches up to the top. In the tube was a strange thing that went up and down. There were stairs that went to other levels. She wondered just how big this place was.
“Shut the door!” He yells, snapping Mary out of her state wonder, bringing her back to reality.
She shuts the door, and helps him over to the table in the center of the room. He presses a button on the table, and the tube in the center starts going up and down even faster. It makes a humming sound, and almost sounded like a living thing.
The Assassin runs into the alley and sees the box disappearing. He runs full force and jumps at it, but, its gone. He smashes full force into the brick wall.
“Sir, he escaped.” Says the sniper on his wrist device.
“Failure won’t be tolerated.” The Commander says. He then shuts the comm.
“Sir? SIR?!” Yells the Sniper in panic.
Then, an Assassin comes out of the shadows and kills the Sniper.
“Target: Terminated.” Says the Assassin in his wrist device.
“Very good. Now, all units, FIND THAT BOX! NOW!” Yells the commander.
Mary helps him into a room. The room looks like an operating room, but very different then any she has seen. Hanging over the operating table looks to be a robotic device. It had many arms. Each had a different type of medical tool. Mary helps him onto the table
“Thank you.” He says, laying on the table.
“Listen to me.” he continues “Don’t touch the central console. Do not touch any other type of panel. And do not leave the TARDIS.” He warns her.
“Alright.” She replies as the robot puts a mask over his face.
She walks out of the room before the operation begins. The door to the room shuts behind her.
She looks up at the complex. She wonders what this thing is, or, who the man is she has just helped is.
She wanders the complex. But she doesn’t touch any of the panels she sees, despite her curiosity.
About 20 minutes after she came onboard this strange box, she started to wonder why he didn’t want her to leave. She runs into the central room, and goes to the door. She goes to open it, but pulls her hand back. She wonders if she should. She then decides to do it. When she opens the door, she sees that she is over 1,000 feet off the ground. She almost falls, but is grabbed by her arm and pulled back in.
“I told you not to go out the door.” He says to her.
“I know but I was…” She starts to say before being cut off.
“Curious’, I know. You know, that’s going to get you killed one day.” He says
“Alright. We’re taking you back.” He says, turning a few cranks and pulling some levers on the central terminal.
Mary sits down. She almost seems upset.
Later, he and Mary go to her home.
“Mom? Mom, where are you?” She says, walking in.
He follows her, looking around. They both enter the main room.
“Mom?...” Mary says looking with fear.
“So glad you could make it.” says the Commander, with two Assassins.
“Your coming back, or ‘mom’ dies. Your choice”
CHAPTER
V
Date: September 22nd 2007,7:53am est, New York City
“Choose, now.” The Commander says.
“Mary, what’s going on?” Mary’s mother says, fearing for herself and her daughter.
“Not now.” Mary says.
“Choose, or I kill her now.” The Commander says, putting a gun to her head.
“You have until the count of five.”
Mary looks up at him, hoping… maybe he can do something.
“One.” The Commander begins the count.
Mary’s heart starts racing. She looks at her mother, and looks at the man she just met. She yet still has hope. He doesn’t move.
“Two.” The Commander continues.
Mary’s mother looks up at Mary and wonders who this man is.
“Three.”
“Do something” Mary says
“Four.”
“Stop. I’ll go. I’ll go.” He says. He puts his hands behind his back. Doing that, he swiftly takes out the metal rod without notice.
The Commander smiles and pulls away the gun.
“I’m glad you’ve come to your senses.” The Commander says. He then signals his Assassins to restrain him.
Before the Assassins touch him, he aims at a lamp and presses a button. All the lights suddenly get brighter. Then, all the lights blow up, blinding the Commander, and injuring the Assassins.
“COME ON!” He yells, grabbing Mary by the arm and starts running. Mary grabs her mother’s arm, and they all run out the door.
“GET THEM!” The Commander screams to his Assassins.
The Assassins run after them. They both activate their Stealth ability, and disappear.
He and Mary both run into the TARDIS. He then closes the door. He then runs over to the center console. He cranks a gear, spins a wheel, and pulls a lever. The strange thing in the tube in the center starts going up and down, and humming. All the while, Mary’s mother just looks in amazement and shock.
He then stops, and just stares.
“I know your there. I must say: your good.” He says to an empty space on the TARDIS.
An Assassin then becomes visible and lunges for him. Mary grabs her mother, and pulls her back. He fights the Assassin on the floor, trying to keep himself from getting stabbed.
“You’ve met your end!” The Assassin says, holding a blade in each hand.
“You are good. You were able to sneak aboard the TARDIS. I’ll give you credit for that.”
He then kicks the Assassin off of him.
“But your also stupid to attack me in my domain!” He says, grabbing a sword.
The two duel. The Assassin uses his twin blades in swift, quick motions. The attacks are blocked.
He steps aside and strikes at the back. The Assassin blocks, and attacks again.
He kicks the Assassin in the face, then stabs him through the chest. The Assassin falls, dead.
He takes out his rod, and starts taking apart the Assassin’s belt.
“Um… I never asked, but what is that thing?” Mary asks.
He then holds up the rod, “Sonic Screwdriver. It can do almost anything. Light a fire, control certain devices, open locks, among other things. The Assassins’ belts have tracking devices. If I can work through the circuits, I can make it work against them. I can find out where they’re striking from.” He says as he works.
“Ah. Found it.” He says. He puts away the screwdriver, and runs over to the central console. He spins a wheel, twists a crank, and pulls a lever. The TARDIS starts up. They’re going to attack the Assassins head on.
CHAPTER
VI
Date: September 22nd
2007,8:21am est, New York City
The TARDIS flies through space toward a ship on the dark side of the moon. It appears in a room aboard the ship. They exit the TARDIS. The man with no name leaves carrying a double bladed spear. He slices through a group of Assassins. They all defend, but he is far more skilled. They were not trained for this kind of warfare; at least this group wasn’t. They knew how to stay in the shadows, and attack. They didn’t know what to do in the event of an attack on their base. He uses the weight of the spear to swing himself through, and taking down more and more. As the last one falls, he goes to a console in the room. He takes out a device, and hooks it up to the console.
“Mary, protect this. Stay in this room. When I leave, I’ll jam the door. No one can get in or out.” He says as he connects circuits to the console.
“What is it?” She asks.
“A device that will give their system a virus. It’ll bring down this whole ship.” He replies.
“A ‘virus’? Something this high tech can get a virus?” She asks.
“As technology advances, so do the viruses.” He replies.
“I’ll be back soon.” He says, walking to the door.
“Where are you going?” She asks.
“To finish some old business.” He says. He goes through the door. He turns back and uses his Sonic Screwdriver to jam it.
__________________________________
The central room has about ten Assassins, plus the Commander.
“Sir, area #5 hasn’t reported in awhile.” Says an Assassin.
“Send a group to investigate.” Answers the Commander.
Then, two Assassins guarding the door are attacked. The first is stabbed with one end of the spear. The other is sliced along the chest with the other end. Both fall dead.
“Hello.” He says, shooting an Assassin with his pistol.
“You.” Says the Commander.
Elsewhere, Mary looks at the device. She still feels lost, not knowing hardly anything that’s going on.
“Who is he?” Her mother finally asks.
“He… I don’t know. I… He was being chased by those people, he got shot and… I don’t know.” She says, frustrated by how much she truly doesn’t know, and why she is in this mess.
“They were chasing him? How do you know he isn’t a criminal, and these are some type of… galactic police?” She sighs “Listen to me. I’m saying ‘galactic’.” She says, worried about her daughter.
“I don’t think he is. There’s… just something.” Mary replies, still trying to figure out the answers herself.
“I’m worried about you.” Her mother says.
Mary just sighs. She doesn’t know anything about this man - his name, his past, or even why these people are after him. Maybe he was a criminal. This thought went through her mind many times, but she kept ignoring them. Even so, this kept gnawing at her.
Back in the central room.
“You remember years ago? We weren’t enemies.” Says the Commander.
“We were never allies. You all did this to me. All of you, the whole Guild. Your no better then the people who took me.” He replies.
“You were such a good warrior. You were the best.” The Commander comments.
“I wasn’t going to keep killing people. You people stole my life.”
“Such a
shame. You could have come back. But dead, you will not bother the Assassins’
Guild again.” The Commander says. He orders the rest of the Assassins in the
room to leave. The two take out swords, and attack each other.
The Commander kicks him in the face and goes to stab him, but he dodges and
kicks the sword out of the Commander’s hand. He goes to stab the Commander, but
the Commander manages to dodge and step behind his back. He starts to choke him
with a wire. They both struggle. He drops his sword, and pulls the wire. He
flips the Commander over his head, and takes the wire off his throat.
They each pull out a dagger, and attack again.
“You – You can’t beat me.” The Commander says, both trying not to get stabbed by the other.
“You said yourself – I was the best” He says
“I said you
were the best.” The Commander says, flipping him over.
The Commander tries to stab him while he’s down, but he dodges. The man runs,
and grabs his spear. He then attacks the Commander. The Commander manages to
dodge, but misses one strike and his left arm is sliced off.
“AHH!” Yells the Commander.
He looks down at the commander and puts his spear in the air.
“Goodbye.” He says as he goes to stab the Commander.
But the Commander escapes when he flies up. The Commander’s boots are equipped with rocket boosters.
“NO!” He screams. He throws a dagger at the Commander’s right foot. It hits. It goes straight through.
The Commander falls to the floor. Then, the ship’s lights go off. The only lights on are the emergency lights. The Commander disappears.
Mary and her mother try to keep themselves up as the ship starts to fall and crash into the moon.
He runs to the room where Mary and her mother are hiding. He unlocks the door with his Sonic Screwdriver and runs in.
“Get in the TARDIS!” He yells. He helps Mary and her mother into the TARDIS. The TARDIS disappears as the ship crashes.
That night…
He tinkers with the TARDIS a bit. He then sees Mary running out of her house.
“Well, I’ll be off. I wanted to thank you for your help.” He says.
“Where will you go?” She asks.
“I don’t know. The Assassins’ Guild will be off my back for awhile. I don’t know where I’ll go.” He replies.
“Can I go with you?” She asks.
“What?” He says, surprised.
“I want to see what’s out there. I want to go with you.” She says.
He thinks about it for a second.
“No. It’s too dangerous. Besides, I work better alone.” He says.
Mary walks off, upset. He watches her walk away.
He sighs “Come on.” He says.
“What?” She says
“Come on!” He says, now with a smile.
She smiles and runs into the TARDIS. A humming sound fills the streets, along with a gust of wind. The TARDIS disappears.
