Alpha Lantern |
Biography:
During the Sinestro Corp War, the Guardians, in an
attempt to stop "the Blackest Night", authorized lethal force against all
members of the Sinestro Corps. Before that, all Green Lanterns that
attempted to use lethal force had their rings
(temporarily) deactivated. This made it very difficult for the Green
Lanterns to win the war (since the Sinestro Corps didn't have such
restrictions). The Guardians thought that, in order to stop the prophecy of
"the Blackest Night", they would have to "rewrite" the Book of Oa. This
included making ten new laws. The first of the laws was to allow the use of
lethal force against the Sinestro Corps. The Guardians knew that this law
would cause problems (and it soon did with the murder of Sinestro Corps
member Amon Sur at the hand of Green Lantern
Laira). Therefore, they needed a group that could enforce the laws within
the Green Lantern Corps (to "police the police" as it was called). The
Guardians announced the Alpha Corps to a group of Green Lanterns and sent
out six lanterns that would seek out someone who had the ability to "enforce
justice". The lanterns searched the room and selected Varix, Chaselon,
Kraken, Green Man, Boodikka and John Stewart. John Stewart however turned
down the offer. The other five accepted. The five were subject to cosmic
surgery which implanted them with Manhunter technology and with their own
lanterns so their rings never needed recharging
(read more about their abilities under "Alpha Lantern Powers" below).
Alpha Lantern Powers: Each member of the Alpha Corps have a ring (possibly two). Like the Green Lanterns, the Alpha Corps' rings work off of the user's Willpower. The rings allow them to create solid objects, shields, and many other things (including flying through space). Their rings require power (like that of the Green Lanterns). But, unlike the Green Lanterns, they do not carry their lanterns. Their lanterns are (surgically) inserted into their chests. Because of the user's connection to the lanterns (and the lanterns' connection to the Central Power Battery), their rings always have power and do not need to be charged. Other Green Lanterns are able to recharge their rings by inserting their hand into an Alpha Lantern's chest (like they would with their own lanterns). An Alpha Lantern will recite an oath while another lantern charges their rings (and in other cases as well): "In days of peace, in nights of
war, The oath isn't required, but they recite it to remind themselves of their duty. The Alpha Lanterns are subject to "cosmic surgery" that fuses them with their lanterns (as mentioned above). It also implants Manhunter technology that gives them other abilities. One of which is the ability to drain the power from a Green Lantern's (or other Lantern Corps') rings (multiple or a single person). This is done by lifting up their "face" and draining the power. Their original (flesh and blood) face is removed and replaced with a fake face that looks similar to their original face. Their new face will lift up and reveal a metal robotic face that has the ability to drain a ring's power (similar to the way a Manhunter do)
