Welcome to the first ever blog from GalaxiesAndComics.com. Here we’ll be talking about Comics, Sci-Fi, Video Games, and possibly more. Let’s get started.
The first, and most important thing to mention, is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)! That’s right. The yearly event where comic companies give away special comics for the main purpose of getting new fans. But that doesn’t stop regular fans all over from participating in this great event. This year, 2009, the day is Saturday May 2nd. FCBD is always on the first Saturday of May. Not all comic book shops participate, because the comic shops themselves have to spend money to buy these comics. To find a comic shop near you that will be participating, visit the Shop Locator on the official FCBD website.
We’d like to welcome back the series Star Wars: Dark Times, which has been on hold for almost year to make room for the series Star Wars: Clone Wars. Unfortunately, Star Wars: Rebellion will not be making a return. However, it will be replaced by Star Wars: Invasion. Invasion will take place during the New Jedi Order (NJO) era, during the Yuuzhan Vong war. It will center around the Galfridian family of the planet Artorias, Artorias falling under Yuuzhan Vong control. The main character will be Finn Galfridian and his sister Kaye Galfridian, both new to the Star Wars Universe. Other characters of the NJO, such as Luke Skywalker, will make appearances but the series won’t necessarily focus on them.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be released into theaters May 1st, just in time for FCBD. Comics characters include:
Wolverine aka Logan (Hugh Jackman)
Sabretooth aka Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber)
Gambit aka Remy LeBeau (Taylor Kitsch)
Blob aka Fred Dukes (Kevin Durand)
And many others, so keep your eyes out, comic fans!
Star Trek, aka Star Trek XI, will be released in theaters on May 8th 2009. The main characters include:
James T. Kirk (Chris Pine)
Spock (Zachary Quinto)
Scotty (Simon Pegg)
Leonard “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban)
Hikaru Sulu (John Cho)
Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana)
Leonard Nimoy (Adult Spock)
The second of four Doctor Who specials has been released. These four specials will be the last of the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. The new Doctor, Matt Smith, will appear at some point during the specials – when is still unknown.
Movie tie-in to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has been officially rated by ESRB as M – Mature for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, and Language.
